About Deea

Summer lover.

Marie • Barcelona

Hola, hola!

What’s up everyone? All good?

I’ve been quite the busy bee in the past months since arriving in Barcelona – from adding new beautiful faces to my portfolio, working on some awesome photo projects I can’t tell you more about just yet, to meeting new people and discovering as much of Barcelona and the surroundings as I can.. oh, by the way! I’ve created a new blog completely dedicated to my travel wanderings that are not connected to my photoshoots and it’s called.. wait for it…  Where is Deea!

So for those of you that kept telling me to write more about my whereabouts – now you have a special place just for that! You guys know how much I love traveling so if you follow me there you’ll definitely be the first to see all the new content that’s coming up!

Now let’s get back to today’s subject! 😉

One of the first photoshoots I had after arriving in Barcelona was with beautiful Marie from Germany who was visiting here with a friend. We connected quite randomly via Facebook: she saw my announcement that I was heading to Barcelona and she wrote me! So glad she did, because I’m in love with how our photos turned out (and also with her freckled skin!)!

We fought the midday heat in the center of Barcelona while also trying to ignore a ton of tourists curious to see what’s going on. If you’ve been around here for a while, then you know how much I dislike shooting at noon! So if that’s a must, I always try to look for a shaded spot next to a building or maybe a park with rich foliage – this time it was the park’s turn to shade us.

I knew I wanted to include flowers in this session because in the days before meeting Marie I was absolutely obsessing with every pink bougainvillea bush I ran into. But the first bush we found at hand was a white one in the shade of a tree. Hmm.. this might work, I thought.

Oh, and it did so well! I fell in love with how the light was filtering through the foliage, how the model was shaded but the flowers were glimmering around her in the sunlight! I felt it all fell together so beautifully – of course that having a stunning model who posed wonderfully helped too! 😉

I was satisfied with our captures – I knew I had at the very least a couple of great ones to pick – but while leaving the park we bumped into a.. pink bougainvillea bush! HELL YEAH! Camera back on and let’s improvise the scene for a few more photos!

What I love most about this session is how different the location and light transformed an otherwise similar setup. The model was the same, wearing almost no make-up and having the same hairstyle. Still, the first set – in the white bush – looks more as a fairytale, whereas the second one – in the pink bush – has a sort of latino feeling in it.

And, bonus! I recored a new video featuring the retouching process that went behind the first set! I thought you guys might be interested in how I approached the skin retouching considering the freckles (which can make it more difficult). It also contains the color toning as it was all done on the spot, no actions used. Let me know what you think and what would you like me to feature in the future videos!

Enjoy!

#inmystudio • Manuela

Hey, everyone! What’s up?

I’m shamelessly enjoying the Barcelona sun (#sorrynotsorry) – but actually not as much as it might seem I do, considering how much time I have to spend in front of my laptop trying to catch up with all the editing work I have to finish. 🙈 About that – new photos coming soon! Can’t wait to share them with you so keep an eye on my instagram for all the new goodies coming up!

Today’s #inmystudio series features beautiful Manuela, with make-up by talented Cristina Foit. Have I told you how much I love this soft natural light? ❤️

Also! Because many of you often ask me how I edit my photos and especially how I do the skin retouching part, I created a video that will show you some insight into my retouching workflow and color toning process. It’s sped up because I didn’t want you guys to fall asleep while watching and you also need to have basic Photoshop knowledge to be able to understand what I do. However, this is my first video ever so I need your feedback! Please let me know your thoughts and what would you like to see next!

See you soon ❤️

La Dolce Vita • Editorial in Elegant Magazine • May 2017

Published editorial in online fashion magazine Elegant, issue 36, May 2017. You can purchase it both in digital and print versions at this link.

Guys, I’ve been dyeing to share this with you for months! This is one of my favourite editorials to date – the dress collection, the hair & make-up, the perfect timing with the weather and moment of day (we shot this in 2 different days, but both around sunset golden hour), the location and last, but not least!, the color toning (I guess I should just high 5 myself for that hehe)! I love everything about these photos, how every piece of the puzzle fell into place and made this story come to life.

Thank you to the great team for their hard work and also their patience in waiting for the publication to come out ♥︎

#inmystudio with Damaris + new instagram account

Hi, guys!

Missed me? 😀 I’m sorry I’ve been away for so long but there are some changes down the pipe regarding my website & blog and I just couldn’t keep up with everything going on in the past months.

You probably noticed I recently split my instagram account posts in 2: anything portrait photography related goes on @andreeaiancuphotography whereas all my travel posts now go on @whereisdeea. The thing is that I like capturing sceneries, food & architecture quite a lot and I couldn’t find a proper balance between everything so my feed was already looking way too chaotic. Plus, I couldn’t properly connect with the people following me because some where there for the portraiture, others for the travel stuff. Hence, the decision to create another account for everything else that goes on in my life that’s not portraiture related 🙂

Man, do you know how hard it is to manage 2 accounts at once?! Generate content on a consistent basis for this little monster that instagram has become, devouring tons of information by the second? My respect for those making a living out of social media management has suddenly increased tenfold!

So, what do you think of this approach? Do you have a single instagram account for everything or have more separate ones? Let me know in the comment section below!

Now, let’s move into the visual part of this post 😉 I recently photographed beautiful Damaris at my place – I’ve got a gorgeous room flooded in natural light which I’m looking forward into transforming in a small studio in the near future (it’s funny how I didn’t really see it’s full potential until the walls were painted white and the ugly old yellow paint was forever gone, thank goodness). This photoshoot was sort of a test, something really laid back, no make-up or hair fuss, no fancy clothes, just to see what we can get out of it.

Guys, I got excited on the very first snap! The light was so so beautiful and it complimented the model wonderfully! In that moment I realised how much I missed shooting with natural light (winters can be a real pain in the butt here where I live..), photographing just for the fun of it with no strings attached aaaaand also how much I love that room :)) I’ll leave you to enjoy the photos, but before that.. should I make this #inmystudio a series? 🙂

Thoughts on 2016

Truth is, 2016 hasn’t been an easy year for me. That doesn’t make it less rewarding or beautiful – actually, it was quite a great year overall – it just wasn’t very smooth, to put it that way. Although I didn’t manage to meet the whole list of expectations (why is it always so long?!) I had for the year, I’m happy to look back at all the awesome experiences I accumulated under my belt. And the stories I’ll live to tell :))

2016 started with a lovely editorial published in Tales Magazine, featuring beautiful Manuela Ticarat with make-up by Cristina Foit and hairstyle by Daciana Durla.

Then it continued with various creative shoots, some of which may or may not imply a car completely stuck in a mud hole, terrible thunder storm and heavy mosquito bites all over my body. Without going through all of the year’s sessions, I’ll be mentioning just some of the highlights. I’m glad I started collaborating with a talented local designer – Gabriella Olar, whose beautiful creations I got the chance to photograph on various occasions. Maybe you remember this absolutely epic blue dress?

Or maybe this gorgeous fairy tale-like red one, which also got featured in Dark Beauty Magazine? (see the whole session here)

Or the collection I photographed later in autumn, featuring Teodora & Manuela as models, with make-up by Cristina Foit and hairstyle by Edina Antal.

I’m also very happy with the shoot I had in Timisoara with beautiful Adelina wearing a gorgeous dress by M.D. Burnette. We were also so, so lucky to have shot this – we hurried up during the only clear weather window in between heavy rain and thunder storms. Now that I think of it, I’m amazed there were roses left.. Make-up was done by talented Adina Trohin. See the whole set here.

Later on I was pleasantly surprised to see a photo I took back in 2015 now in huge size adorning one of the walls in Lotus Oradea mall. It features gorgeous Vanessa for De Georgia – a jewelry brand. May I tell you a tiny little secret? Each time I pass by the banner I still get excited like a little kid. I also go very close to the image and inspect every pixel. 😀

Another lovely collaboration was with fashion designer Maia Ratiu – her dresses are so soft and feminine and delicate! It was a pleasure to shoot the campaign for both her F/W collections, in a wonderful setting in Oradea. Models were Teodora and Manuela, with make-up by Cristina Foit and hairstyle by Daciana Durla.

A capture I’m absolutely in love with is this one from a set with beautiful blogger Beatrice Szuhai wearing tights by Gatta Romania. The sun was preparing to set and the light was filtering so nice in the room (at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Oradea)! Make-up by Anita Kovacs, hairstyle by Anett Szabo.

Last but not least, I’m in love with this session I had with Manuela. Simple is often better – we just went out to shoot some portraits and got some of my all time favourite captures! Make-up was done by Anda Goia and you can see the whole set here.

Travel wise, I could make a whole other blog post..! I’m happy I got to travel a lot last year and aiming for more this year.

If you’ve been following me on instagram, you’re probably up-to-date with my wanderings, but to mention only a few, I’d say Copenhagen was definitely a top favourite – the city is absolutely amazing!

Learning to surf in Costa da Caparica and exploring Lisbon with Surf Office was also a great experience, while discovering Cabo de Gata Nijar Geopark in Southern Spain was fantastic on its own, not mentioning all the other perks, like spending time with a friend from there who I hadn’t seen in 2 years. Ups, blog post about that trip coming soon – so many gorgeous locations to share with you!

What else? I think this sums up pretty well the highs of my 2016. What next? Well.. we’ll live and see 🙂

How was your 2016?
