Meet my hometown #Oradea

I never shared here anything about my hometown and it’s a shame, ’cause it’s a wonderful city, one of the most beautiful of Romania I might add, without being (too) biased! 🙂

I was born and raised (mainly) In Oradea, a city in the North-West part of Romania, very close to the Hungarian border. Oradea itself was part of Hungary for quite some time and its history spans all the way back to 1113, when it was first mentioned.

What makes Oradea really special and different from other Romanian cities is its fabulous Art Nouveau architecture, more exactly the Secession style, bearing the imprint of Austrian and Hungarian influence. Most of the important buildings that stand as witnesses of a different time date back to the end of the 19th century and the beginning of 20th century, a period when Oradea simply flourished.

I’m not going to bother you with more historic facts; I’ll just add how happy and proud it makes me to see that my dear hometown is going through a series of changes at the moment, trying to beautify and add value to its appearance, while also aiming to create new interesting locations that will attract tourists and offering its locals the better life they’re looking for. I hope to see a good change in the people as well!

I’m eager to see what’s next and optimistic it will be great!

Also, last year in December I was invited by TrustTheLocals to write a little guide about Oradea, which you can find here (includes tips on what to see and where to eat). Don’t hesitate to contact me for more info if you happen to pass by!

Your hometown looks so lovely! I love all of the architecture, it must be so wonderful to be able to walk around and see that all of the time. I also liked the picture of the duck boats on the water. We have something similar on one of the small local lakes where I live and it brings back fun memories~

Thank you very much Laura! Yes, it’s a beautiful city with amazing architecture, but very often I take it for granted and forget to look closely and admire its beauty 🙂 I have to take my camera out more often 🙂

I know, right? I was just commenting this earlier.. 🙂 We should take the time to discover what our hometowns have to offer:) Thank you!

Such a beautiful place to hail from! Will anything be done about the palace and its grounds? Such a shame that it’s left to sit with no care!

Thank you! I don’t know if they’ll do anything, it was retroceded to a private owner a few years ago and since then it’s left in this state..
